The main objective of Lay-Ups Youth Basketball League is to provide boys and girls with an introduction to basketball while fostering skill development in a fun and encouraging environment. This program emphasizes participation, self-esteem, confidence building, and, above all, having fun. As coaches, creating a positive, enjoyable experience for the kids is the top priority. By focusing on growth and enjoyment, Lay-Ups aims to help every player feel valued, confident, and excited to continue their basketball journey.

Our coaches at Lay-Ups Youth Basketball League are typically parent and community volunteers who share a passion for the game and a commitment to helping young athletes grow. Every coach undergoes a background check prior to the start of the season to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all players.
Coaches are responsible for reaching out to their players once team placements are made, welcoming them to the team, and communicating important information. We also encourage coaches to hold a parent/team meeting during the first practice. This is a great opportunity to recruit an assistant coach, team parent, and other volunteers to help with team activities throughout the season. By fostering teamwork and collaboration both on and off the court, we create a positive community experience for players and families alike.
-
Player safety is our top priority at Lay-Ups Youth Basketball League. To ensure a safe environment, there must always be two (2) adults present with players in the gym at all times. This allows for immediate and appropriate action in the event of an emergency—one adult can attend to the injured player while the other remains with the team. We are committed to creating a safe, supportive space where all players can focus on learning and having fun without worry.
-
As a spectator, please remember that you are a role model to all the children in attendance, and we ask that you conduct yourself accordingly. Your positive behavior sets an example for the young athletes, helping to create an encouraging and respectful atmosphere. We also ask that all spectators remain in the gym at all times—wandering around the school is prohibited to ensure the safety and security of everyone involved. Thank you for supporting the players and contributing to a positive game-day experience.
-
At Lay-Ups Youth Basketball League, it is required that all coaches provide equal playing time for all players in attendance at each game. This ensures that every athlete has the opportunity to participate and grow in their skills. The only exceptions to this rule are cases of illness or injury. If any coach or parent feels that this rule is not being strictly followed, they are encouraged to contact Lay-Ups immediately. Our goal is to provide a fair and positive experience for every player, reinforcing our commitment to inclusion and development.
Fun, learning, and sportsmanship are the main priorities! We encourage all participants—players, coaches, and spectators—to help create an enjoyable and educational experience for everyone involved.
